HOME REMEDIES TO STIMULATE LOSS OF APPETITE

Loss of appetite is the reluctance or inability to eat because one is unable to eat or enjoy eating. This could arise as a result of stress, anxiety, depression, acute smoking and drinking, morning sickness during pregnancy, ailments, medications, etc.

In some cases of loss of appetite, they are temporary, and so reversible. But sometimes, it is persistent, and although it may not cause a life-threatening situation, it can leave the patient undernourished, even resulting in rapid weight loss, and if nothing is done to correct the situation, it could weaken the immune system, and even cause dehydration. Therefore, the patient needs to go visit the doctor, for thorough check up and treatment.

However, so many home remedies are available to solve problems of loss of appetite, including the following -

1. Ginger Remedies -

Ginger has a volatile oil with a property that cures indigestion, and also removes the intestinal gas produced during digestion. It cleanses the colon, and also cures an upset stomach.

(a) You can eat ginger raw or add curries. You can add crushed ginger into your tea while boiling, and also add cinnamon, anise seed, and peppermint.

(b) You can add half teaspoon of ginger powder into a cup of hot water, leave for 10 minutes, seive it, and drink with honey to sweeten it, or without honey.

(c) You can grate or peel ginger, mix with black pepper powder, and a little lemon juice. Take it on empty stomach daily for 15 days, for best result.

2. Tomatoes Remedy -

Tomatoes is good for cases of indigestion and loss of appetite. Make a mixture of Tomatoes and pepper powder, and eat raw.

3. Peppermint Remedy -

Peppermint is very good for restoring appetite. Add some peppermint leaves into boiling water, leave for a few minutes, strain and drink warm.

4. Remedies From Fruits -

Fruits usually stimulate hunger, improve digestion, and appetite. Some fruits you can use are apples, oranges, grapes, guava, black berries. Consuming orange before every meal can cure loss of appetite. Eating 2 to 3 guavas, 2 hours before every meal can cure loss of appetite.

5. Lime and Lemon Remedies -

(a) You can either drink lime juice, or squeeze it over fresh fruits, or salads, to enhance your appetite. You could make up lemonade, add a little honey to enhance the taste, and drink a glass every morning.

(b) You could consume lime with a bit of fresh ginger once daily. It is a good cure for appetite loss.

6. Indian Gooseberry Fruit - This is also known as amla. It is a fruit rich in Vitamin C. It boosts the immune system, also facilitating the absorption of mineral, both of which are essential if there is lack of proper nourishment, as a result of nutritional deficiencies.

(a) Mix 2 tablespoon each of indian gooseberry juice, lemon juice, and honey in a cup of water, and drink daily, in the morning, on empty stomach, for 3 to 4 months. The indian gooseberry Juice will improve the functioning of the digestive tract, and also detoxify the liver. And when you mix it with honey, it reduces nausea and vomiting.

(b) Add 1 tablespoon of indian gooseberry powder in a cup of water, leave it overnight, add 2 teaspoons of lemon juice, and a bit of ground black pepper to it in the morning. Drink regularly for a few months on empty stomach.

7. Please remember that multivitamin capsules can greatly stimulate appetite.

8. Tianshi, Fohow, and Tahitian Noni Supplements are also available to effectively stimulate appetite.
